What is the best career for me?

I'm a senior in high school and I'll be going to college in a year, but I cannot for the life of me decide what I want to do! I like things that involve Media (more imagery than video work), writing, reading, math etc. I'm not very social so I don't want a job that I'll need to talk to someone 24/7. I've tried taking career aptitude tests, but they don't help. I really hope someone out there can help me! Just go check out different colleges and take a couple classes and something will pop up cus usually the first thing people pick for a career doesn't really stick and end up going into a whole different field.

travel the world doing mission trips for Jesus Christ and help the poor and experience new lives all over in places you've never been, NOW THAT'S A CAREER!

or...

go for the arts. math is just numbers and does not embrace creativity which is a gift from God to not be wasted. Go for imagery, photography and write for your visuals. graphic art, and then travel the world and embrace the beauty of what you picture whilst writing about it.

If you took the famous free online career aptitude tests - yes, they will not help you in your goal to figure out what career path to follow. These are sometimes set up as entertainment and the results are not going to be "unique" to you...

If you can afford to take a paid career aptitude test, take it! These tests are geared to you and not a generic test like the free ones.

You will also need to sit down and figure out what type of job you want. Why? Every job has its "pros and cons" - that is life. But if you figure out what the best career fit is for you, the "cons" will not be important as you pursue your career. If the fit is not your fit - you could spend years being miserable in a career that may pay the bills, but your insides stay depressed.

I would also like to recommend - no pressure to do this - reading The Pathfinder by Nicholas Lore. Why? This book helped me last year to figure out what career I needed to be in - a Virtual Assistant. Like you, I do not like a lot of people interaction and to be honest, I love being able to interact with them online. Now as time goes by, I am sure I will be more open to other careers - but right now with the recession, this is a perfect fit for me.

Bottom line - tests and career counselors can only do so much. You are the ONLY one that can figure out which path to take. Talk to other people in your area to see what careers are hiring. Why? It always helps to get advice from others who are in the career you may be interested in and maybe spend a day hanging out with them. This will give you a feel for the possible career. It is good that you are seeking some answers now as too many people waste time and cash pursuing a career only to find out there are no jobs. There are no guarantees for getting a job, but researching and planning does help to decrease the chances of failing at finding an income source that excites you.
