I have been using TopixTalk for the past few months. It's pretty new, but it's a great social media site to browse categories and take part in certain topics. Unlike Facebook and Twitter, you can filter out the content that you don't want to see just by only taking part of the topics that YOU want to talk about. I've been talking to a lot of people that are interested in a lot of the same things that I do. You should try it out.
