It goes to show you that the Seniors have been laid off and some who are in their 40 and 50 range are looking for Disability Social Security because the know they will never be re hired into the job market where they were working due to their ages. Unfair but reality.

I don't see what's unfair about that. At least they were working unlike all the lazy low life's who have been draining our welfare system for a long time.

EDIT: There was a lot of elderly people who elected to keep working rather than retire but now since they lost their job they are filing for what they deserve.

Did you ever notice that no one ever calls for regulation of a failing government program.

I guess Votes are more important than the welfare of the American people

You have to have a true disability in order to receive SSI. Plus it can take well over a year to get it, if not longer. SSI will turn you down every time unless you have proof of not being able to work. It just isn't that easy to get it. BTW people over 50 can and do get jobs all the time. I know people in their late 70's that still work because they prefer to do so. It is NOT impossible to get a job after 50, but you may have to look harder and longer. I know this for a fact as I live in a senior community and many seniors do indeed work here, by choice.

I didn't read that. People in their forties and fifties have to be disabled in order to get SSDI, not just out of work. I do know that the early stage "baby boomers" are just now beginning to qualify for early retirement and that could explain an increase of social security applications.

Yes, of course. It's a change we can believe in. Barack Obama wants everyone to live in a ghetto and be on welfare. Everyone receiving welfare makes people more dependent on the government and makes the government more powerful to control our lives. This is what liberals call fair.

More people are reaching the age to apply for social security. It is called the "baby boomer" generation. Some are getting while it is still there. It is not related to the economy.

Sounds likely to me. Another thing I'm hearing around here is people that normally would have waited to get on Social Security are taking it as soon as they can fearing a means test. If they do have a means test and take the Social Security away from lots of seniors, you will see every casino and restaurant close. People have already quit funding their 401K's afraid it will be just held against them when it comes time to collect social security.
