Meeting girls on facebook, is it okay?

Basically theres a girl on facebook I wanna hit up but don't really know her that well..one was in my class a few years back but we didn't really talk.
Is it weird to hit girls up on fb who don't know you that well? Anyone got any experience or advice?

Its not that I cant get girls in public, its just I see this one girl on there I really wanna talk to just don't want to be creepy

I would recomend u to talk to her in person rather than using facebook...
