Is social media a good or bad thing?

I ask this in Politics because social media seems to be all the rage in that arena.

For example, every pundit, news organization, candidate, political organization, etc. has a FaceBook page.

I am astounded at the stupidity I see on those pages. (So that's MY answer...)
Keep in mind that the "Arab Spring" is a news-media fiction.

Yes its good it allows us to have discussions today that would not have possible by so many 25 years ago. The Internet is today's ham radio---long may it live unchanged.Social media is dialogue--who would be against that?

It has the potential to be either good or bad, it depends on how it's used, or abused.

It is both good and bad.It allows citizens to pass information quickly.Families far apart can stay connected etc.But there is a down side as well.Information many times is skewed,distorted,or flat out untrue.Many people only get their news from the Internet.They may be getting false distorted news.Some people believe that all they read is true because it comes from the Internet and that is dangerous i think.There is much hate in social media,seems like.As we have seen it may result in things like suicides.People may get a wrong idea about something.Because the Internet makes a little thing seem large because so many people will talk about it.
