How to remove the annoying apps from my Facebook right sidebar?

Hello, can you please tell me how to stop the Facebook apps from appearing on the top right of my sidebar just above the ticker? It's really annoying....

Hi there,

I just discovered that if you put your cursor just above the ticker but below the apps/games box, you should be able to just close those boxes to extend the ticker so it goes right to the top. You drag the cursor towards the top of the screen so those boxes close.

Hope that makes sense. It was driving me crazy!
