I met a guy once at a train station while I was commuting to work (yeah I know, super random) and we had a good conversation about college, accomplishments, life, etc. He seemed like a cool dude, so we exchanged numbers.
A few weeks later he called me asking me if I'd be interested in making some "side money" (this guy was a successful engineer, so I trusted him). He said if I was interested, he'd take me to a workshop explaining how I could do so, and the workshop had no strings attached. So I said sure why not. So I go over there, and they start explaining how I could make "thousands" of dollars each month and blah blah blah. The name of this particular business was Amway. Basically what it is, is that you pay an entrance fee of about $50, and they want you to recruit more and more people for them. The more people you recruit to join, the more money you make. I was not buying the whole thing. It's not really a "scam" by definition, but basically in order to make money you need to spam people to join and in return they also become spammers. It's a pyramid scheme. Furthermore, in order to even make a decent amount you'd literally need to recruit hundreds of people each month. Who has time for that when you have a real job? It's much more efficient to just get a real job. I regretted not asking the guy who brought me there what the name of the company was, because I would have done some research on it and seen what a waste of time it was. I wasted a good 4 hours on a Friday night. Anyway, sorry for the long story. But pretty much if you see anything like that it is not at all worth it. There's many companies like that. Google "Amway" and you'll see even more info on it. |
