Has Social Media turned some AFL players into hermits?
Here is an article that tells the other side of the off season, bad behaviour player story.
http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl/...public_rss In away you have to feel for these young players, such as Dale Thomas. because after all. they are only human & would like to go out to let their hair down occasionally. but as you have seen just recently. at what cost? Ads |

They have the money and the fame, and all that goes with it. Public scrutiny is part of what they have to accept. If they don't like it, they can get out of it. This is nothing new for other football codes, look how the English tabloid press has been feeding off the players for years. It is now catching up with the AFL players.

Seems like its the 21st century price for any type of fame but there is no gain without pain, so if they choose the limo ride to the Bank, they have to pay the limo price. You get nothing for nothing !

As others have said - that's the price of fame.
You work hard and play hard on the field - but when you play hard off the field as well, you have to be careful - and that requires maturity and responsibility, something which players lose in the heat of the moment from time to time. To paraphrase a quote from Stephen Pearcy of American glam metal band Ratt "You must remember it is credit - you can have the time of your life but it can lead you into some deep s--t". |

I don't think its the public that has anything to do with it as the Players Association has warned. It 100% the media's fault that the players are turned into hermits.
As readers and listeners to our news papers and TV networks, (so much crap coming from the media) Are we so gullible and believe what is said or written? The media needs a story/ies, so to sell a story, they would make up a story basing on what a player has done or said. If one player talk's about something good about the footy club or whatever....the media will find a negetive from it. As players....they are pushed to be good role models, they are always in the spot light, and yet the media has no mercy when it comes to a player stepping out of line. The media influences our thoughts & opinions. The media obviously thrive on propaganda and will blow up any tiny thing just to sell their newpaper or listen/watch their program. Dont believe the hype is the best rule of thumb when it comes to footy related 'headlines'. Men are men, boys are boys and footy players are NOT perfect. They do need to set a good example to young kids BUT....some of their bad behaviour is best left in the dark - the media hyping some situations up to ridiculous proportions actually draws the attention of young kids, resulting in them taking more of an interest than necessary. |
