because (3^4)/(3^(1/4)) is the same as (3^4)*(3^(-1/4)) and by properties of exponents which say that if the base is identical and they are multiplied together, then we add the exponents, so that equals (3^(4-1/4)) = (3^(3+3/4)) = 3^(15/4). Its similar to how x*x = x^1*x^1 = x^(1+1) = x^2. Does that help?
