Someone shared a link to me?

I got a email that one of my friends shared a link to me from facebook. Was this email message really shared direct to my email, from my friend? Or is this some kind of facebook computer automated thing just to trick me into thinking it was shared direct to my email from my friend? It was posted or "shared" on my friends timeline.
It's not spam, I get facebook updates by email every once in a while.
I'm really just wondering if my friend's shared link was posted to their timeline, OR if it was posted to their time line PLUS the friend sent the link to my email also manually?

If not, I guess facebook can send email updates making it look like it was sent personally to my email as well.
The email reads this in the subject: (Friend name) shared a link.
If you open the email it says it's a facebook notification and it was sent to my email address from one of my facebook friends.

I'm guessing it was just a random facebook automated email nothing more.

Check who the sender is, check what the link is about, and then you can determine if it's spam or not. Don't download anything unless you absolutely know for certain it's safe.
