How does a private instagram work..?

Ok so i like just now had to private my instagram because someone i know commented on a picture asking who i was and saying im in their contacts... (i have this instagram for personal reasons). But like, she didnt follow me or anything, thank god. but if she commented, she cant still see the stuff can she? and my instagram wont show in anyone elses contacts now that its private will it? It is so important that nobody i know finds this.....

Basically, Private Mode means when she looks on your profile all she can see is your profile picture, your motto, who your following & who is following you, she can't see any of your pictures. If she decides she wants to try and add you and clicks on the follow button, it will send a request to you and you can either accept or decline.
Yes you will still come up on you friends list as someone they are following but that shouldn't really matter because they can't follow you without you letting them.
If she does keep on harassing you, click on her profile and you will see 3 dots up in the right hand corner. Click on it and you will see a Report User button & a Block User button.
