Twitters new list feature allows people to create lists to categorise groups of people they wish to follow. The people that are added to a list do not need to be actually followed - they can just be in a list. Think of it like organising people in folders.

To create a list you just login to the Twitter website and you will see a notification about creating lists. Call your list anything meaningful to you and start adding people to it.

You have a choice to make the list public for everyone to see, or private so that you are the only person to see it. If a list is public then others can subscribe to that list and follow the tweet stream of that group of people.

There is no way of getting yourself added to other people's lists but you can add yourself to your own lists.
