Blocking someone from reading a status update on Facebook?

I want to write a status update on facebook but I dont want one friend to see it. How do I block them from seeing it? Also when mutual friends comment/like the status will the person I block from seeing it be able to read it?

There should be a button next to the 'post' button when you go to post the status. That opens a dropdown menu & i think you have to click the custom button. Then you can choose who can & can't see your status. If you block a person from seeing the status, they won't see it at all.
