With the "new" facebook how to hide timeline?

I am friends with some extended relatives that I don't want to unfriend, but I want to hide my timeline from them. Is there any way I can do that without unfriending them? Also, is there any way I can set it so they can't surf through my profile pictures?

to make sure only certain people view you timeline posts,

1. go to Privacy settings > How you connect > change settings for "who can see posts by others on your timeline?" and "who can post on your timeline?" from public to friends

2. when you post status or upload/share pictures and videos make sure you select friends from the audience selector

3. you can even apply the setting to pasts posts via settings > privacy settings and apply past posts

4. put the people you want posts to be hidden from on the restricted lists and they can't see a thing
