Yes. Very much. It spread the opinion of several people across the world on any subject. Once upon a time this used to awaken the Organisations like Human Rights Commission and other such NGOs to gather and consolidate public opinion on important matters where human rights were violated and some gross injustice was being meted out to innocent people to to laxity on the part of our Judicial system.
However, the same principle may not work out in case of any matters concerning Politics and State Administration. Off late. Indiscriminate misuse of the media by some elements puts every one into trouble The present situation warrant one to keep his opinion reserved since there are people prowling to find opportunities and ways to misinterpret the opinions expressed by people to harass them and brand them as Naxalites or Terrorists. The interpretation of those in power is only counts even if it is deviating from the real meaning. A single act of violence when it results in loss of property and lives,if committed by people like Dawood Ibrahim or Kassab who are not in Politics comes under Terrorism, while if committed by a Local Politicians during any Bandh, is mildly viewed as a common riot and the matter get diluted in the crisis of zeroing the identity of the culprit in the mass Public opinion has lost its original propensity and the Election results are depending upon the muscle power and the people involved in the power who might rig up and manipulate the results to facilitate the convenience, and a major percentage of population is barred from exercising their voting franchise due to the irregularities in the system of Unique Identity Card /Election Identity Card just due to the calouse inefficient people involved. Those who are supposed to protect the rights of the common man now only protect and shield the Netas and Politicans who twist the rules and procedures against the interest of common man. |

What do you mean by social.Media is anything but.And as for the main part of your poser,my answer is " Of Course,it will ".But to what extent it is hard to say.It is only the educated class that can be swayed by media opinion. Here again there are literate people who have minds of their own. However,
the number of people who have not had the luxury of an education could be influenced by someone in the village who is sufficiently educated reading the papers. But these days almost every home even the remotest of villages has a TV which purveys news which can make undecided folks turn the way the channel desires, because no channel is unbiased. So,in the ultimate analysis, the media does play a very important part in influencing the voter. Have a Good Day. |

Yes, social media will have an important role in the next Lok Sabha elections. However, we have to see that the social media is restricted to cities. The major chunk of the electorate is in the rural areas where there is hardly or no penetration by social media.
