Why would someone have their twitter account marked private?

I don't get this. If they just want to communicate privately with the person who has a twitter account email them at their private email address? Wouldn't that be easier? I never saw someone having their account private before today, but I don't understand why anyone would do it.

Maybe they like the format of Twitter more than emails of Yahoo!/Gmail/Hotmail/etc. It's also a possibility they have a lot of friends on the site, but don't want strangers to see their profile because there's a lot of information they're uncomfortable for others, that aren't their friends, seeing it.
