Tips:

> Use hashtags. If you use hashtags people who are interested in the same stuff as you are more likely to see your tweets and therefore are more likely to follow you.

> Do Follow Friday (this ties in with the first one) and shoutouts. There are two possible outcomes you'll want from this. Either they'll thank you by following you. Or they'll also give you a shoutout to their followers.

> Be interesting. I know it's rich coming from me (I'm not the most interesting person in the world) but if you're interesting people are more likely to follow you.

> Follow as many people as possible (best to stick to people who share your interests because you don't want to follow someone who endlessly tweets about Twilight if you hate it) and hope they follow back.

> Follow the people who are following more people than are following them. They are more likely to follow back. For example me.

> Promote your twitter account on other sites such as here, YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Flipnote Hatena, etc... On forum sites where you can have a signature on your posts have as your signature: "Please follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/username" And on Youtube/Daily Motion/Other Video Site videos put the same in the description. You can also end each video saying to follow you.

Note that these tips won't guarantee more followers but it'll increase the chances of getting more followers.

> DO NOT be a part of Team Follow Back. You can follow people back all you want but don't be part of that. TeamFollowBack normally have #TeamFollowBack hashtag in almost all of their tweets. This just puts people off following you. If they were already following and you just all of a sudden start doing this it'll make people more likely to unfollow you.

> DO NOT spam people with links to sites that may contain a virus. These people are annoying. They send the links by @ mentioning you and it normally sends you to a porn site. If you're constantly doing this nobody will follow you. If you ever receive these (the tweet contains the username of a few tweeters and the link) DO NOT open it on a computer. If you really want to see it, open the link on a mobile device such as the DSi.

> DO NOT ask people to follow back. And don't follow people hoping for a folllow back. If you follow someone by all means @ mention them about their tweets, but DO NOT @ mention them asking for a follow back. This like the TeamFollowBack will put people off. If they want to follow you they will.

Be active and tweet by trends.

Make sure you have a professional or unique twitter background. People will tend to take your twitter more seriously and add you if they follow a link to your twitter profile.
