Question about lack of social media?

I have notice a few companies that advertise their social media channels through print and their website, although I am curious to know why a company would advertise their social media channels if they do not monitor them or update them at all. For example, a company has not posted on Twitter for over a month and people have posted customer service questions to them with no response. So why would a company make a move like this? Is this not smart?

I think it really depends on every company..every one has its own procedures in their social media marketing strategies...
