can we chat in FB with someone who maybe have blocked you?

I am new to FB and I am wondering it. This ex-friend does not appear anymore in the list of members when I do a search and the link there was with his name in a photo album he took is now in black.

YET we can chat, actually we have too because he is an ex-college and my boss does not leave me choice. Another trick : when I go to his name in the chat box it does not seem blocked, it does answer normally.

So to make it short : when someone blocked you can they chat with you as if you were still friends.

What do you think ?

You can't chat with him if he has blocked you, so he hasn't blocked you. Sometimes people but privacy settings on facebook so they can't be looked up on the search bar by anyone, even their friends, but it doesn't mean they have blocked you.
