How to find great books - social media options?

I've just rediscovered my love for reading, however I find it hard to locate books I like, even when it's a specific genre, I only want to read the best stuff. Are there any social book tools with a "like" or "similar" function - that will find me other excellent books, like the ones I read?

Books like most things cater to personal taste. What you think are the 'best stuff' others might hate, so it's difficult to define books this way.

Having said that, you should try the site; http://www.tastekid.com/ask. You just type in the books you've read and it brings up a list of similar books/authors. It also does this for movies, music and tv shows.

its alright but after having bought the books it hasnt been that specific i.e when i put "larger than life" up to maximum expecting a fantasy setting ive ended up in jamaica 1940s with real characters
