Wouldn't retired people be screwed if we invested their social security into the stock market?

Good thing people were smart enough to see through the right wing lies and thievery.

Can you IMAGINE the welfare mess we'd be experiencing now? The elderly having to fend for themselves in this financial crisis....
I don't know what happened to the party of fiscal responsibility.
This is who the republican party gave up to nominate McCain/Palin:

Well, they would have been screwed...of course they might have been lucky too....that is they might have gotten their own stimulus package had they lost their savings and many of them might have made out like bandits.

They are screwed if they think social security will let them retire. Another failed socialist dream.

Yes but those of us that are younger would have more than ample opportunity to take advantage of the growth in stocks. Nobody wanted those already retired or near retirement to have their retirement funds placed in the market..

Creating social security was a big mistake, and running the system like it was, and congress voting to spend the s.s. surplus, very corrupt, the system should have never been created.

Ending the system would be good.
(or at least finding sources of revenue other than income tax to fund it)

but the Republican's alternative; privatizing it, would be much worse. It would result in people losing half their retirement funds.
Look at how badly the stock market crashed!

The government shouldn't tell its people how to invest their money. Social security needs to end because it is forcing people to pay into a system they will never receive from.

Had it not been for the thievery of key democrats, this wouldn't even be an issue.

That being said, it's probably a bad idea to privatize.

Especially with people like Bernie Madoff offering their services. Oh looky there, another Democrat.

Oh wow Einstein. At least if it were in the safe part of the stock market the government wouldn't be spending all of it. How do you think Clinton balanced the budget during his term, only problem was he didn't pay it all back. Why do you think the democrats fought so hard against reform of it? We'd find out how much we no longer had.

Unless you are at least fifty years old, you're gonna be screwed by the time you reach retirement age -- the social security system will be broke.
My investments are in gold and other precious metals. If the government would stop taking money from me for social security I would have even more money to buy. Do you realize that the value gold has more than tripled since I first started buying it?
Smart investers know what to invest in. A fool could have seen that when home loans are being given to people on welfare, there's gonna be trouble.
