Try typing your friend's full name and country and city in fb advance search.If the person is using an alias name then you need to know their e-mail address.Or you can just go through all the people with that name hoping they have a real photo as their profile pic.

There are some possibilities:
A) They're using a fake name or a pet name.
B) They found your account already and blocked you because they don't want to be friends on FB for some reason.
C) They deleted their account.

Tips:
-Try searching their nicknames/pet names.
-In the advanced search, add the place they live to the name you're searching for to narrow down the results.
-Try searching for their email address.
-Ask your friend what their FB name is.
-Ask your friend to send you a request instead.
