Question about privacy on Facebook?

I want to change my status to intrested in men. However, is there a way I can make everyone see it except for my family? How would I do this? If I am able to block my family from seeing this status, would they know I blocked them?

On the right of each entry in the about you see the Audience Setting? the icon that might look like globe (public), padlock (only me) etc.
➤ click Audience Setting ➤ Custom ➤ on "Share this to" click Friends of Friends (for example, can't choose Public) from dropdown options
➤on "Don't Share this to" type Family then click the match one on the dropdown options.

The above is based on the assumption that you already put all of your family into that Family list.
