If you are willing to spend some money, for $55 (All Prices are ONE TIME (Lifetime Updates on Program), you can automate your replies, automate twitter by auto follow, auto unfollow, and auto tweet too. It is a very simple system. I use it myself. You can send approx. 1,000 at a time. You can setup your system to send to your new or older twitters first. It's very cool and you can get lot of followers as well. There is a simple tutorial on how to send automated messages to your followers and how to use the system. The link is below in the source box.

Seemed a lot of people ask this question these days.

To reply to a regular Twitter update with a direct message from your home page, click the arrow/swoosh at the end of an update; this sets an @reply in the update box. Remove the '@' sign and replace it with a "d" and a space, and type the message.

People who have their direct message text and email notifications set to ON will receive direct messages on their phones and/or via email. Tweets sent using any of the methods described above are not public: only author and recipient can view direct messages.
