Who is gonna be waving at Saturn today/tonight?
In the afternoon of July 19 from 2:27 to 2:42 p.m. PDT (5:27 to 5:42 p.m. EDT; 21:27 to 21:42 UTC) NASA's spacecraft, Cassini, will take photos of Earth and its Moon from Saturn for 15 minutes. This will be Earth's 3rd photo from Saturn and the first photo that people have been told about in advance. North America and much of Asia, we will be in daylight and won't get to see Saturn.
Also Messenger spacecraft at Mercury is going to take a photo of Earth on July 19th and 20th, 2013, at 4:49 a.m., 5:38 a.m. and 6:41 a.m. PDT (7:49 a.m., 8:38 a.m. and 9:41 a.m. EDT, or 11:49, 12:38, and 13:41 UTC) on both days. Parts of Earth not illuminated in the Cassini images (all of Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia) will appear illuminated in the MESSENGER images. The Twitter hashtag for the event is #DayEarthSmiled. P.S. Those with Saturn and/or Mercury as their ruling or dominant planets have no excuse to miss these two events! Ads |
