How do you check follower requests on instagram?

I have a private instagram account, and I just stumbled upon someone instagram that I know. There was something at the top that said this user wants to follow you. I had no idea that I had a request for so many months, and didn't see it. How to I check for requests without searching people to see if they have requested me?
And I know that this has nothing to do with facebook, I just didn't know where else to put it lol.
