How do you get more followers on Instagram?

So I've had Instagram for about 6 months now, and I currently have 722 followers. I guess some people think that's a lot but I have friends with over 2,000 followers and they've had Instgram for about the same time as me. Also, I gain like 5-15 followers a day, but I always end up losing like 10-15 a day!! It really pisses me off! But anyway, I was just wondering how to gain more followers without having to pay? Why? what importance is this to life to your future?

Random pictures of you or your food with a sepia? people pay for followers because by default no one gives a crap.

I usually follow people first so they can follow back but they never do. So i think you just have to be patient -.-

I was also looking for ways to get more followers, but I refuse to pay for them or give out my information for it ( I like Instagram, but not that much, haha!)

This article helped me a lot - basically just leave a lot of comments on other pictures, say that you'll follow back anyone that follows you and put your Instagram name on your Facebook, Twitter and other social networks so that people can know what it is.

Try to post really pretty pictures on instagram. People like to follow people who post pretty pictures. The more pretty and unique pictures you post the more followers you will get. Follow people and see if they will follow you back. People will notice you if you follow other people. Try not to upload to much or to little. Make good caption on your photos. Go on google and look up "How do you get more followers on instagram". Btw, 722 followers isn't that bad.

Post good pictures and remember to always always always hashtag your pictures. By hashtagging your pictures you allow other people to search your images (as long as you're not private). This means people with similar interests to you (make sure your hashtags are relevant) can find your pics.
