Hire a company to make me a website?
Good morning everyone!

If I get a company to build up a website of my dreams, can they steal the idea and make profit from it? Like I have great ideas for my new social site way better than facebook, features it doesnt have yet. But I am still scared that if I hire a company, can they do this to me?
Steal it and make similiar copy? Or there is a contract or something that they have no rights to copy the css or features of my site or adding a code that will give profit/benefit to their company.

Hire an attorney first, or build it yourself with an open source CMS like Wordpress/buddypress if you're comfortable with php/sql programming.

If you have these huge ambitions for a website and no web design or html training I'd say hold off for now and try to learn how to do it

If you can get dreamweaver, there's a nifty drag and drop feature, and tutorials online how to use it better.

The website will not hit off if you do not have any web design or coding knowledge unless you put the website in control of someone who knows what they are doing.

Yes the company can steal your idea if they so wish to. However if you hire a reputable web/graphic/html designer/company the probably wouldn't care to go out of their way to do that unless the idea is revolutionary, and I mean super revolutionary.

Having a whole website made and being able to maintain requires a lot of money for the website commission to having servers for the website. If you want to hit off your website something like facebook huge, realize they have warehouses full of servers.

The company probably won't be willing to do that, so you should be fine as long as YOU have the money for these kinds of things. Avoid freelance designers.

There also is the probability that the website won't hit off, because putting together a website that is functional and widespread like facebook literally needs an entire company of people to maintain and run it. So if your website doesn't hit off, your down hundreds of thousands of dollars. Not to mention the money you would need to successfully advertise it.

If you have the time and money, get a reputable company, they won't copy you.
