Many news media now attempt to increase popularity by adding entertainment value along with information-based news.

Where have you been news has been infotainment for decades it started after major companies realized that hard news usually effects their bottom line negatively. They bought up interest where they could and where they couldn't they bully with advertising dollars. This has turned news into prepackaged dreck most people ignore.
