Do I need a facebook or social media site for public relations career?
Hi, I was wondering the above question because I'm about to get internships and was wondering if I would need a facebook or twitter in order to keep up with the company ? and if so is it a plus for pr firms to hire you if you are facebook/twitter savy ? Im majoring in public relations and Im just wondering if that's something I should have ?

You will definitely be more marketable if you have experience and knowledge around social media. The disadvantage you will face as a new graduate will go a long way toward being offset if potential employers view you as someone up-to-date on the newest and most effective forms of communicating with a target audience.

Also, as a PR person, you will be able to do a lot of "social listening" with various on-line tools that can help you understand how your firm's message is being received along with giving you ideas on how to counteract misconceptions or negative information in social media channels.
