If I turn off chat on facebook do people still know when I log in?

I turned off chat. I always see the last time my friends logged in to facebook on the chat window. Can they see that as well, even if I turned it off?

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I almost never log out of facebook from my computer. Just close the window and when I search for facebook again I'm already logged in.

If you turn off your chat, your friends don't know you're on line, except when the 'caught' you just comment on something, like a second ago, our 5 minutes ago, etc.
