I personally believe you need to meet people in person and have a few conversations before adding people on Facebook. That's more effective. So I would recommend going to meetup events or some other events in your locality where you get to meet people with the same interest. Also, QR codes are effective .. If you use an Android Phone and using the most recent Facebook app, there is a QR code section to add friends more easily.
