Should I post something on facebook to help me find my paternal grandfather?
Years ago, my grandfather passed. Probably about 15 years ago now. I am only 23. But I remember it like it was yesterday. Not too far prior to his death my grandmother on my father's side released the information that my father was fathered by another man aside from his sisters and brother. However, she would not say who. She lied about where he was born. Won't give him his birth certificate. (Somehow he is a LT. for the corrections dept without one) I do not know this side of the family very well. They were never kind to me. I was raised by my maternal side of the family. I am 1,000 miles separated. My grandfather was the only one of that side who treated me decent. The rest treated me as a dog. (No worries I grew to be a successful young single mom with a good life I am very blessed with my mothers side of the family) BUT when I asked my father who my grandfather is he says it doesn't matter. That he doesn't want to know. But me... that is not acceptable. There are many questions I have about my bloodlines. My daughter and I are carrying a last name that we are not blood related to. Which is fine because he was there as my grandfather regardless. But I have questions about genes, or diseases and health conditions that might run through my family history on that side that I should be cautious to look for things of that nature. And when I told my father that he said just know I am American. That's not a good enough answer for me. My grandmother is dying and taking it to the grave with her. How else can I find this out? I wanted to post one of those things to share on facebook but I don't want that side of the family to see it and cause drama over it. I just feel like I have a right to know. And I am unsure of the steps to take to find out. Any suggestions?

I would not recommend doing this type of research online unless you are positive privacy is not an issue..There are people that would do the research for a fee and keep the information private.
