I'm 14 and not allowed to have social media accounts?
Well I've just started high school and I'm growing up (whether my mom believes it or not) and people are asking to contact me on different social media sites but I'M NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY ACCOUNTS. My mom says I can't have any social media accounts (I have an instagram and vine but they're not as popular as like twitter and facebook so it's not as big of a deal with my mom getting mad) I'm not like posting inappropriate stuff! I just want to be able to talk to my friends through the sites! I was wondering how you all think I could convince my mom to let me have a twitter/facebook ? PLEASE HELP

Thank your Mom when you become an Adult because these days social media is not good for high school students especially when there's a lot of cyber bullying going around. Why don't you just talk on the phone with your friends?

Twitter is a waste of time. Leave that to the hipsters and attention seeking whores. Text and talk like a normal person =) Facebook is just as bad. And I'm 21 so you can't call me an old gpa complaining about kids and their music lol

Sorry but I have to agree with your mom. Social accounts are an un-needed time sink that only cause drama. Every single person I know who had a facebook/twitter and stopped using it became MUCH happier with a week and had more free time.
EDIT: Social media is never needed for anything in any case. I've not joined a single social media website ever. Simply put, there are always better ways to communicate besides social websites. |

If you look forward to getting a job and you don't want things you said previously to prevent you from getting a certain position, I would stay away from social media websites...

Magie you want to use Facebook and twitter to chat with your friends, Family members and friends become totally different people when they are online. My grandchildrens rules are, I use Facebook or Twitter to communicate with them, I REFUSE to use Facebook or Twitter to communicate with my grandchildren, now we don't communicate with each other, I will use a instant messenger, email or phone, Not a social website, so Your mother is right in what she is doing,

Talk to her. Be mature and explain why you want/need one and that she should trust you. Do you have a phone? You can text your friends. Just be sure to explain what makes you think you need one. And don't whine or beg. That makes you look immature and she really won't let you then.

In addition to talking to her about it, I'd have her maybe talk to your friends parents who let them use twiter and fb. I personally wouldn't fight to get a twitter too much since not a whole lot happens on there and there's still a ton of people who don't have one. For fb it also might make her feel better if you have her make an account and add her as a friend so she can see what you're doing and it might make her feel better (I know it's annoying but it's better than not having one).
