when on phone does it show green dot on facebook?

when you are chatting on facebook, does the greendot show only if on the computer or green dot show next to your name when chatting on phone as well? i was told if on phone the phone symbol shows next to name, but i see some of my friends i think they are on the phone and showing a green dot next to name. yet i do see some phone symbols. idk, its really confusing. what does this mean?

If you're on your computer try leaving the chat on, then exit out of Facebook. The chat will turn off automatically, but when you get on your phone, it should show a green dot. Make sure the chat is on on your phone
