Is it right to put a comment?

My cousin who is like 20 I think took picture with her boyfriend at a family event. Everyone is commenting like "so sweet". Can I comment "sweeter than diabetes"? Because I want to like let them know like : the couples relationship is very sweet or something. I also meant to make it like funny. Is it appropriate?

As a person with diabetes, I can tell you, it isn't sweet at all.

However you could say "this is so sweet it gave me diabetes," and that wouldn't be offensive at all.

I think it is appropriate, but I think it would be more appropriate if you would have said it was as sweet as anal obstruction.
