No Internet Connection - Norton Free Trial Expired?
Hi,

My new laptop's (it's a HP Pentium 2261a) free Norton anti-virus trial expired today. I had been planning on using another free ant-virus as soon as it had expired rather than purcase Norton. Now I can't purchase Nortonanyway, as I can't get online.

But just after it expired earlier today, my Internet connection has stopped working. I can get on to Facebook, Twitter and my Gmail inbox for some reason, but everyting else just will not load (it just says e.g. 'Waiting for Google.com as if it is loading up but it never does).

I diagnosed connection problems and it said DNS Server isn't responding. My old laptop works fine with the same wireless modem so I know it can't be that.

Anyone know what I can/should do on the new laptop?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

I can't understand why your connection has failed. Probably coincidence. I would buy a usb wireless adaptor as they are cheap and reliable. See link. When you get back online download Microsoft's free AV as this works well.

Strange. The only thing I can think of is if Norton has stopped working altogether now the Norton firewall will not be working, so the PC has probably reverted to using the Windows firewall instead.
As you can get past the router to get to other websites your PC must be talking to it OK.
I suggest looking at the security settings in the control panel, and particularly the firewall settings and exceptions as something may need to be unblocked.

Might be something completely different of course, regards, Bob.
