Is there a science fiction story that foresees social media like Facebook?

The closest I can think of is Orson Scott Card pretty accurately predicting the concept of blogging in his novel "Ender's Game". He wrote it in the 1960's I believe.

Not one that I know of, and I've read a lot of SciFi.
Perhaps the best example is Wall-e, which is very recent and probably won't work for whatever you're looking for. But I loved the one scene in the movie where the two people are "video conferencing" as they ride along in their chairs... even when they are right next to each other, they are still using the video rather than just talking face to face. That's "social media" gone to the extreme. Everyone communicates electronically, not in person. |
