What & what not should you post on your facebook account?
I don't have a facebook or Twitter account & really don't want to create one but some places I visited on web requires you to give them your facebook account details or requires you to have a facebook account.

My question is what is the minimum info that I can get by with if I create a facebook account, especially regarding following.

(1) Do I need to give my real birthdate ? If yes any legal reasons ? Any legal penalties from facebook or someone else for giving a wrong birth date ?
(2) Do I need to post my own photo ?
(3) Once I create the facebook account, can I permanently delete everything that I posted on my account & close it if I decide to do so in future ?

Thanks

-dont need to, just month n day is enough, no penalties, they r just social networking site
(2) Do I need to post my own photo ?
-not necessarily, depends if u think ur good-looking, u can, but it's better to put in so that people would want to interact with u (cuz with photo of human, people will feel like interacting with human rather than cars, bike or cartoon character)
(3) Once I create the facebook account, can I permanently delete everything that I posted on my account & close it if I decide to do so in future ?
facebook change their terms (how to put it not sure). previously once an account deactivated, all the comments made by the account disappeared but i think today, even if the account is deactivated, the name, the comments n even the private message are still able to be seen..

really, its up to ur personal preferences, whether to keep it private (which is best for everybody, just connect with closed friends and families, u can control that) or public (best for celebrities who want "fame" like miley or kardashians i guess)

1. No You don't have to tell your real Data of Birth. There is no legal action against it. Maximum they can do is disable your account. The main reason behind the date of birth is, it can tell your friends that today is Birthday, while providing suggestions for friends, they includes common things, like age, interest, and many other things. So that you can add more and more friends of the same age group.

2. No. It can be anything in picture format, either a car or a celebrity. They will not verify if it is your image or not. FB uses Face recognition technique, so if he founds any image like your, it can tell you.

3. There is no as such option yet to delete the profile, but you can deactivate it. And to activate it again, you need to login using the same email address and password. while your profile is deactivated, people will not be able to see your profile. But it will not remove your older post and anything. You need to block people so that they cannot see your activity.

Hope this Helps

I keep my facebook account just to maintain contact with friends, but not for posting. How can you contact one of your 70 friends say after 4 years of university without facebook?
