How to start a conversation with a cute guy (stranger) on Facebook?

So there's this cute kid I'm friends within Facebook, and of course being on Facebook i don't know him. I added himbecause he was cute and we had a bunch of mutual friends. We've been friends on Facebook for a while and I saw him on my news feed, creeped a little, and decided I anted to start talking to him and get to know him! How can I start a conversation without seeming creepy or boring or desperate? I don't want to say hi what's up? Cause that's typical.. Would it be weird if I introduced myself, even though he could already know my name?
