Facebook Question: Can I eliminate Chat, or stop it from coming on automatically whenever I log in?

I use Facebook to post things from my blog. My problem is this-- whenever I log in, chat comes on, and people try to talk with me. I do not want an online chatroom, and do not want to appear rude by ignoring people. Can I eliminate this, leave a pre-recorded message, or simply not have it come on automatically?

Yes you can. If you click on chat there is a little settings symbol, Click that and then turn off chat. It will ask you if you want to turn off chat off to all friends ( its something like that), click ok/yes. Then your chat will be off the next time you go on.
