Is Facebook nothing more than a joke?

Is Facebook nothing more than a joke?
I am not, nor have I ever been a fan of Facebook, but at the request of my now ex-girlfriend I created one. At one point I had about 208 contacts on my Facebook "friends" list. When she broke up with me this number dropped to 100. It seems that when she removed me from her contact list a lot of people followed her. Then, because of the economy, I lost my job. Less than 24 hours later I lost another 95 people, my co-workers. This mass exodus I do not understand. Why would my ex co-workers delete me from their contact list? Oh well, I really don't care as I am about to close this thing down anyway.

All this has done is confirmed my belief in the beginning that Facebook is nothing more than a waste of time and that your "friends" here are not really your "friends" at all.

Does anyone agree?

I have a Facebook account. I have about 150 friends, give or take. They are mostly people from college or high school, family and old friends. I don't take Facebook seriously. You defriend me... I don't really care. I like Songpop. That's my main reason for having it.

Well obviously your friends on facebook are not necessarily real friends. Most people have hundreds of fb friends but rarely do you find a person with more than 20 real friends.

I disagree, obviously you were friends with the wrong people who just abandon you when your no longer around. I like Facebook because you are able to contact with old school friends and it is an easy way to contact people. Such as if one of your family members lives abroad you can easily message them on Facebook so you don't have to pay money to call or text them. If you are hosting a party you don't have to hand out invites you can make an event for it on Facebook and choose the people you want to invite. There are tons of things you can do and I think Facebook is great if you don't abuse it like some people do.

It happens, thats why i only add people that i know and spoke to not people who i know but never spoke to. And also, i am one who thought facebook was a joke and i only created one becase of my ex girlfriend and also like your situation when we broke up all my friends stopped liking and commenting on my profile. And just recently i clicked a link that had a virus and it spread through my profile and it sent posts to all my friends more than once, which annoyed most of them so i was really embarrassed about that and then after that noone cared about my posts, but i still post anyway so people don't think i'm a complete hermit or something...i took a break from facebook, but i'm always on it because well i don't know why actually. If i delete it, then i have no way of connection with anyone and if i don't people don't talk to me anyways.
Bottom line is i agree. I got addicted to checking my facebook because its the only way i had communication with my ex girlfriend so now i have a habit of using it, a habit im trying to break which is frustrating.

Amen, brother! Seems to me if you are over 14 years of age, actually or mentally, FB will be a waste of time. I keep it only to see my grandkids photos.
