Any ideas on how to get followers?

So I was thinking about making another twitter just for like a comedy account. I've been a comedian for a while and I like making people laugh. I don't want to buy followers. I had a comedy like account on another social network and it was a hit and then one time before I actually had made a comedy twitter account but no one would follow. I understand some of you will be like "you're obviously not funny" and okay, that's you're opinion but like I said, I've been a hit before. I don't think I had the right retweeters. Any ideas on getting quick followers?

I know that buying followers is considered "lame", but you can buy real followers. I mean followbargain.com promote your account to thousands of people to ensure you gain the followers you purchased, so I dont really think it counts as a bad thing?
