Are there any Social Conservatives that are Athiests?
I make a broad distinction between the Free Market Libertarians and the Social Conservatives. If you want to be more subtle in your political distinctions, feel free to characterize your views honestly; that's what I want. But my main question is whether you are both a Social Conservative and an athiest.

I'm sure it's possible but they'd be a scant minority. Free market conservatives and social conservatives have a marriage of convenience.

I'm a FISCALLY conservative atheist (most days).

Social conservatism and lack of faith is a very rare combo I would think.

I can't think of any rational reason to be socially conservative at all.

I've talked to people like that before. It basically comes down to not caring enough to have a religion but still being a boorish pig.

I'm sure there's at least one somewhere, but I doubt there are great numbers of them. I assert this primarily because much of the logic behind staunch social conservative ideals is founded on religious beliefs. Personally, I'm a socially liberal/fiscally conservative atheist.

I'm not sure these terms are even comprehensible. A so-called "free market libertarian" is actually an anarchist, and a "social conservative"---what could that possibly mean? Conservative is a FISCAL point of view; I'd imagine a "social conservative" is in fact a reactionary (kind of a fundamentalist).

I don't see any relation with atheism, which is merely one single thing---non-belief in God. Atheists can believe anything else they want. They have nothing else in common with each other, except perhaps more intelligence than the average bear.

Present.....or at least agnostic. does that count?

Neocons and social conservatives have forgotten true conservative principles.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm an atheist nor am I strictly a social Conservative.

Why don't you lay out all the tenets of social Conservatism and see if someone could support them all without the influence of a deity based religion. Then you'll have your answer.

Let's take abortion. Is abortion murder? To believe abortion is wrong you have to believe it's murder and murder is wrong. Neither of those have to be related to religion.

Let's take the traditional family. The traditional family has been shown on average to produce more well adjusted successful children. One does not need to be told by a deity to support families when it can be supported by logic.

Feel free to disagree or post other examples of Social Conservatism and we can debate whether you have to be religious to support them.
