How do you deal with people forgetting who you are?
Before you write me off as a loser (hey, I probably am...), I DO get positive responses sometimes. But I'd have to say that 90% of the time, especially as of late, I've noticed a trend in acquaintances: they forget my face and/or name and/or where or when they met me. Or maybe I'm just exceptionally astute and recognize people easily.

First, is it just me? Am I just that unforgettable? Or is it common these days to forget people thanks to Twitter and Facebook, where you don't even have to remember your friend's birthday?

Second, how do I deal? It's been quite disconcerting. I always feel like I come off interesting or at least someone you'd remember days later, but then I'm proven otherwise.
Wow, Count Zader... How did I not see that coming?
Thanks for the comments, everyone! I'm glad this isn't some kind of phenomenon, through which the Universe is trying to shout at me, "You're a loser!"

Katlady, your comment made me smile. Smile Growing a little Chia pet afro on my head doesn't seem like such a bad idea though...
Ash: Hahaha!
amish and Dogbreath: I responded to your answers, but I guess I forgot to properly submit it. Honestly, I kinda forgot what I said, but it was along the lines of: Sorry if I came off as critical of people who cannot remember faces/names. I've seen forgetfulness all too often in my life, and since I was the common denominator, I took it as a reflection of myself.

I'm a girl, by the way. I just wanted to see what the male avatars look like. Yeah, I chose the creepiest-looking one...

They call me Stacy. They call me Her. Mary Joe Lisa. Always the same. That's not my name. That's not my name. That's not my name. That's not my . . . name!

I wouldn't be too insulted if I were you. These days people can be so preoccupied, you have no idea if they're actually listening to you or not, and it has nothing to do with how interesting you are personally, its just how people are. People I know don't recognize me all of the time. I just try not to let it bother me.
If I try to talk to someone I recognize and they don't remember me I simply reintroduce myself and continue on with the conversation. Typically after doing this once or twice they will remember me. I guess the key is not being shy.

It is also possible that everyone you know has Alzheimer's, But I find this option very unlikely

Are these people the kinds of people you have an interesting conversation with, or are they just people you've met through other people? If it's the second, don't worry about it..
It might just be that you've come across people who are horrible with names (like myself..I'm great with faces, but names leave me 30 seconds after being told) One of the easiest things you can do is just say "Hey, it ((your name)). We met....blah blah blah..."

Whatever you do, avoid saying "you probably don't remember me.." it just makes the whole conversation awkward..

You could start a trend of slapping people right after you meet them, they probably would not forget your name!!

Well, I can't see them all having Facial Dysmophic Disorder, and can't recognize faces. Maybe you have no discerning features, like Brillo-Pad hair, a cleft palate, something extraordinary. Maybe if you had a signature handshake, or move, joke, something to stand out it would help. It's hard not to take personally, but try not to.

I am one of the people you are talking about. It is not intentional and has nothing to do with you. I do not remember faces or even if I've met someone. Some of us can remember and some can't. The older we get, the foggier names and faces become. Also, some medications have a side effect that causes confusion. Please don't take it personally.

It is far easier for me to forget someone's name than it is their face. Unless your name is truly distinctive like, say, Nebuchadnezzar, or Egbert, I would say your name is probably John, Bill, Bob, Dick, Harry, Joe, or Mike. There are so many people with these names, it is very easy to forget who anyone is. That's why I like name tags.

And if someone does forget your name, don't be upset. For crissake forgive them, few of us have total recall.
