Yes. Nook is like an normal android tablet with the specific Barnes & Noble book app which let u download the e-books from their web site easier. However, u can still install the kindle app to download books from amazon.com. Nook is able to surf the internet with a built-in chrome web browser (loading speed will be slower than a normal desktop PC). Access to Facebook, Instagram and Yahoo can be done by the web browser or downloading the corresponding app through Google Play.

Feel free to try a real Nook in a nearby Barnes & Noble bookstore.
