New Job - What should I do?
I recently got a new job, mainly because of the Christmas period and they need extra staff.

Problem - I am currently studying for my exams/ it is my exam period and next week they want me to start training for the job

- This will take up 3 days of my time next week, I really do need it to study

I don't want to risk failing/ doing bad on my exams if the job is not long term ie. they get rid of me after christmas period. It would be soo frustrating.

Anyway Should I call up and say - Is there any flexibility with the training days? because I have my exam period on right now ( exams dont finish till 20 Nov)
maybe I could come in one day a week?

Or just flat out say - I am unable to do the training days at the moment because i have my exams on?

Another issue - The store manager is not in till Monday but I am supposed to be there at 8:30 on Mon so should I just leave a message with some other manager to pass on?

Life isn't all sunshine and rainbows....man up! Many people have worked full time jobs while going through exams, myself included.

Suck it up. There are many people without jobs so you should count yourself lucky.

Think about this:
For some classes, your grade basically boils down to the final.

If the classes are in your major, or if you are pending acceptance to a specific program it is important to do well.

If your area of study has a career path and this job isn't on that path, it is not important.

If you need money to survive next month, it's probably not as dire as you think.

There were times when I could only afford one meal a day. Be enterprising and resourceful, I found out the gas station down the street throws out their doughnuts daily at 9pm. The clerk was nice and let me have them. The bagel place was very strict and threw them away - always keep trying.

If you can't pay people, don't avoid them or (gasp) write a bad check. Discuss the situation as candidly and dirctly as possible, focusing on the facts and a plan of action.

Handle your problems like a boss and you will be a boss one day (if that is what you want).
