Since Facebook is viewed using computer monitors, the maximum resolution you need is 96 PPI, but saying that most monitors can only resolve 72 PP

It is my understanding that Facebook automatically resizes images so that they can store hundreds of thousands of new photos each day

To prevent others from using your images without your authorization, most of us resize our images to 600 x 400 pixels at 72 PPI

If you want to show off your images at full resolution, you need to get an account with Smugmug or Zenphoto and link your photos on those services from your Facebook page.
