when I go on my girlfriends Facebook page, it shows the green chat button is on. Then when I refresh her page, it then shows just the message button. And thats an on and off thing. Does that mean that shes messaging someone else on and off?

She could just be having a conversation with one or more people. If she wants to message someone, then that's done through the messaging bit. The green light bit is like a chatroom. Why the light goes on and off I dunno - probably just co-incidence. Or maybe when she sees that you have joined the chat room she dips out for whatever reason.
