Can I track down What the location is of a message sent to me on facebook?
Someone sent me a Facebook Message saying they think my husband is cheating. Its from a Facebook page that is obviously not someone's real one (The page has no pics, friends or anything indicating that it is actually being used other than to message me). I know with email, you can track the I.P address, but can you do so with a Facebook message? And if you can, where would I look to find out how to get the I.P address. Do I need a professional to look up the culprit? Remember, this is coming from a Facebook account, just not sure if it can be traced back to a single computer or not. Thanks to all

The only advice i can give you is to look at the message from the Messages screen (not the pop-up chat that you can see on any screen). If there is a little circle with a downward point next to the message then you can hover your mouse over it to reveal the location. If there is no symbol or it has a picture of a chat bubble, then you're out of luck.

Just ... make sure that you have reason to trust a complete stranger more than your husband. If you have no reason to distrust him then you're really gonna screw up your marriage.

IP addresses can be faked, even with email - so in the larger picture, you cannot depend on it being real

even a professional wont be able to look up the culprit, only the police can, and they wont get involved unless a serious crime has been committed

and even if they dont fake their IP address, the IP address you get is only the IP of their service provider, which only gives you the general location where they sent the message from, it does not identify their actual computer or give you their home address
